It takes Someone with No Legs to Trudge

Quoted from the Big Book, page 30:  “We are like men who have lost their legs; they never grow new ones.  Neither does there appear to be any kind of treatment which will make alcoholics of our kind like other men. ”

Quoted from the Big Book, page 164:  “Abandon yourself to God as you understand God.  Admit your faults to Him and to your fellows.  Clear away the wreckage of your past.  Give freely of what you find and join us.  We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the road of Happy Destiny.”

Quoted from Step 1…and Step 12:   “We admitted we were powerless…” – “Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried…”

Quoted from page 417 of the Big Book:  “And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today.  When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation – some fact of my life – unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment…unless I accept life completely on life’s terms, I cannot be happy.”

Quoted from page 163:  “You forget that you have just now tapped a source of power much greater than yourself.  To duplicate, with such backing, what we have accomplished is only a matter of willingness, patience, and labor.”

Quoted from page 45:  “Lack of power, that was our dilema.  We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves.  Obviously.  But where and how were we to find this Power?”

I remember a scene in one of the Terminator movies where Arnold the rescuing destroyer gets his butt kicked by the liquid metal Terminator.  It looks like he is down for the count.  The red light in his eyes vanishes.  But then his CPU reroutes around the damage and finds a way to reconnect to his power source, and he gets back up.

I have a damaged CPU, and this program has provided me with a reroute to live again.  But unlike the Terminator, my new connection had to go wireless through the web of the universe and find a power greater than what I had available.  Innately, I am still powerless.  I am as good as dead.  Recognizing that, I am not so shy or argumentative about connecting with this other entity that apparently powers the universe and yet desires to become intimate with me.  I can debate myself into the grave or surrender to the magic that I have witnessed in this 12 step program.
